Here is a list of pubs I have visited that I hope will help you in your journey to football enlightenment. If you would like to review a pub to contribute, please let me know in the comments and I will contact you.

How to Find a Pub

Finding a pub that shows football isn’t very easy. Especially if it’s a particular match, which will always be the case.  The first thing you should do is search online for wherever your location is.  Google searches with “english soccer pub los angeles” or “football pub los angeles” or “irish pub los angeles” will often turn up some pretty good results.

If you can find a pub that actually has a decent website, a rarity, you might be able to find out what games and channels are shown straight away.  This is great but unlikely to happen!

If your search turns up a list of pubs in the area, and that’s pretty much it, you could still be alright.  Give each pub a ring, by order of proximity ideally, and talk to the manager or bartender on duty.  They’ll be the most knowledgable on their setup.  If you are looking for a particular game, you’ll do well to research as much as you can about it ahead of time.  Check your club website for the fixture, then hit SoccerTV for more info, and then you’ll be able to provide teams, channel, and time for the good barkeep.  I always like to find out as much about the bar without sounding like a jackass as well.  Here are some good questions:

  • How many TV’s do you have/how big are they?
  • How many people usually show at (time of match)?
  • Is it usually pretty smokey? (if you care)
  • Are you showing any other matches at the same time?
  • How big is the pub?

It would also be prudent to keep an eye out for a British accent, as this is usually a good indicator of a jackpot.  Unfortunately you might have to pry for awhile to find out if they are showing the match in question.  Be king and keep at it, someone will know (even if you have to call back at a different time).

If you end up going to a pub on any of my advice and want to write a review for the site, let me know! Happy pubbing!
